Hello Readers! It has been three weeks since my last blog post. I took a few weeks off to do other types of writing and catch up on my tenure track job search. It is a difficult time for everyone on the academic job market while unemployed or working as adjunct lecturers. I see you, I hear you, and I am with you!
It is also a difficult time for undergraduate and graduate students. Many institutions, including most in my home state of California, are in online classes due to COVID-19 related campus closures. In the previous two blog posts, I covered some “Worthy Habits” for undergrads. If you missed them, you can click here and here and you will land on the posts. A third post on “Worthy Habits for Undergrads” is in the works! In the meantime, consider supporting the students in your life.
You can help me support one of my former students, Constance Ortega, MA. Constance is currently a doctoral student in Clinical Forensic Psychology at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. I have known Constance since she was an undergraduate student in one of my Chicana/o/x Literature classes. I can personally vouch for her intellectual rigor and high ethical standards for scholarship.

Here is how Constance explains her study for “Intervening as a Bystander in Situations of Student Misconduct: Sexual Assault, Hazing, and Academic Dishonesty” (the tentative title of her dissertation):
“This study is about college students and bystander intervention in situations of student misconduct. I am recruiting participants who are currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at a college or university. If you are currently a college student, I hope you will consider participating in this study! This is an online survey in which data will be collected through Survey Monkey. The survey should take approximately 10 to 15 minutes to complete….Please share this announcement and link with anyone you know who may be enrolled in an undergraduate program, I would really appreciate it! Thank you! If you have any questions you may contact Constance Ortega, MA (Researcher) at cortega@ego.thechicagoschool.edu or Dr. Linda Gomberg (Dissertation Chair) at lgomberg@thechicagoschool.edu.”

If you are an undergraduate student, then please consider participating in the study!
If you are teaching in Higher Education, then please consider sharing this study with your students.
If you have a study/survey that you need participants for, then feel free to click here to contact me. If you send me the information, I will share it here and on my social media pages.
